If you've been subscribing to the Mountaineer Journal, you may want to ask its owner for a refund... at least up through March 10, 2020. That's the date Mountaineer Journal registered to do business in the State of West Virginia.
The announcement of the Mountaineer Journal acquisition (which has since been deleted from the Journal's server) stated that Mr. Caiden Cowger purchased the domain name for approximately $130. Ever since the acquisition, the Mountaineer Journal has been selling subscriptions and other lucrative ancillary services... Since March of 2016, to be exact.

If you lie about one thing, what keeps you from lying about another...
"Hi, Traci..." That was a BOLD FACED LIE!
You were not registered at that time! Why lie about it?
Mr. Cowger's credentials are shaky at best...
· A City Council Candidate who lost his election bid (would have been youngest ever)
· Avoided state and local taxes for four years without having a business license
· Known for making National headlines for his discriminatory comments and making Buckhannon look like bigoted Hickville, WV, 'accomplishments' he's proud of
· A twenty-one year old still living in his parent's basement
· Busted and shut down for using bots to boost his YouTube videos
· Habitually lied to everyone on social media regarding his credentials
· Attacks law abiding and productive citizens in our community who do not agree with him one-hundred percent on everything
· Many of his claims have been debunked and found to be false or fake news
· His photo-shopping skills are horrendous; Photos are photo-shopped for a reason
Deceptive from the beginning...
On November 17, 2019, Mr. Cowger stated via the Mountaineer Journal:
"Our subscription service starts at $5.00 per month ($4 for the first month), or a $54.00 yearly subscription ($4.50 monthly). While Mountaineer Journal will continue to provide a selection of free news articles to our readers, subscribers will gain access to exclusive content...
... Our advertising technology will give advertisers the ability to create a promotional package to meet any budget. This technology also places Mountaineer Journal ahead of our local news competitors by offering a more affordable and more effective ad distribution service."
Selling ads and subscription services for your personal blog without a business license is highly unethical and ILLEGAL!
But go ahead! Because that's the Christian thing to do, right? The Bible says that all of us shall obey the laws of the land. Even if you are running a personal blog, you still have to register it in the state of WV if you use it for profit, especially if you earn more than $600.00 per year in revenue.
So, unless you haven't been keeping records, Mr. Cowger, you more than likely owe the state some back taxes. That's a slap in the face to all of the business owners who actually pay their fair share. We don't take kindly to cheaters, Mr. Cowger. You must have learned your business practices from your father, John E. Cowger. More on that later.
Not reporting your income is considered tax evasion. It's very basic stuff.
I wonder if Mr. Cowger would have continued operating without a license or tax certificate if a potential lawsuit was not being considered at this time. This is just hear-say, but the grapevine says a potential defamation suit may be brought against Mr. Cowger from the State level due to a video Cowger Media LLC produced and released last month.
Is this why Mr. Cowger decided to finally register his business as an Limited Liability Corporation? To prevent being held personally accountable for his blatant attacks against those who oppose his political and radical religious views? Look at the dates between the video release and the date he registered Cowger Media LLC with the State. Close enough?
As a person who subscribes to several news media outlets, I am outraged to learn that Mr. Cowger has been lying to everyone from the very beginning. He only registered his 'business' to save his pathological lying rear-end from losing any personal income. We should all demand a refund an unsubscribe to those who are evidently shady folk like Mr. Cowger.
Demand a Refund!
If you subscribe to the Mountaineer Journal, I hope that you are now well informed of their less-than-standard business practices and egregious ethical standards. Mr. Cowger lives with his parents at 10 Gilbert Street in Buckhannon, WV 26201.
Why did he not have the resources to pay sales and use tax on his earnings? I've assumed a majority of his funding comes directly from Dr. Downer, his Maternal Grandfather (an eighty-something year old who still cracks backs as a chiropractor) Notwithstanding, we should all be outraged by these underhanded tactics for profit!
A Fair Warning
Mr. Cowger can become very defensive while attempting to have an intellectual conversation online. Be sure to never oppose him on his social media pages. He will block and then report you for harassment or bullying. He has even sent his father to tell people and others' family members to stop picking on him because they simply asked a question on social media regarding his credentials or sources. He seems to enjoy censorship and always defaults the flight response when asked anything logical.
It's funny (and I guess, sad), most of the people I've asked around town have no idea who or what Mountaineer Journal is anyway. Thank goodness. Certainly not Christian behavior for so-called Christians. Aren't there passages in the Bible regarding lying, stealing and cheating?
Mr. Cowger resides at 10 Gilbert Street with his parents in Buckhannon.
